Meet the PharmiWeb Team: Kelly Tipper

Can you provide a brief outline of your role?

In my role as Business & Operations Director, I’m the strategic navigator, steering our life science job board to success by leading a strong team, fostering innovation, prioritising customer service, and keeping our eyes on the prize. Day-to-day, I’m the operations guru, fine-tuning processes to keep us in sync with industry standards and teaming up with tech experts to continuously refine our platform. I also handle the financial side, and when any challenges hit, I’m the crisis manager, developing solid plans.

How long have you been at PharmiWeb?

I’ve been with PharmiWeb for a decade – long enough to remember when we were still figuring out how to properly use emojis and sending emails with more restraint. It feels like I’ve witnessed the evolution of technology faster than I’ve seen my own hair turn grey! So, I’ve been here long enough to have seen quite a few changes.

What do you do in your spare time?

My husband and I are in our ‘sweet spot’ i.e.: our kids have left the nest, and the grandkids haven’t arrived yet, so we’re making the most of the freedom by travelling whenever we can.

We share a love for outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, paddleboarding, and kayaking, which makes our travels a mix of adventure and relaxation. We’re also into exploring local cuisines, seeking out the quirkiest bars in every town we visit.

My husband’s a musician, so a good chunk of our time is spent in live music bars and open mic nights, whether he’s playing at different venues around the UK or we’re just enjoying the local music scene.

Can you share some of your standout moments at PharmiWeb?

Numerous noteworthy occasions have marked my journey – some tied to business successes, others celebrating our exceptional staff and the incredible team we've built. Personally, a pivotal moment stands out for me: spearheading the transition from our internal job board software to a new platform in collaboration with Madgex. This move proved transformative for PharmiWeb.Jobs, propelling us to a higher echelon within the industry. Another significant milestone was breaking through the impressive revenue milestone of £1 million in 2021.

What do you think makes us unique, both as a business and a team?

We exhibit remarkable responsiveness and agility, thanks to our tightly-knit small team that operates seamlessly without egos or hierarchical barriers. When any idea is put forth, it is promptly embraced, allowing us to swiftly leverage the team's resources and skills to adapt to new tasks and processes. Working in such a team is truly enjoyable due to its exceptional ability to respond and adapt promptly.

How do you think PharmiWeb has changed since you joined?

Vince, Mike, and Nola form the core of the team, collectively contributing over 50 years to PharmiWeb. Although the team has doubled in size, the newly added staff align with the enduring ethos and core values. In recent years, there has been a shift towards greater organisation, process orientation, and analytical focus, largely influenced by the responsibilities of my role.

What do you see in the future for PharmiWeb?

I eagerly anticipate ongoing expansion. Following a challenging year marked by economic uncertainty, we are optimistic about a positive upturn in all aspects next year. Subsequently, we will focus on the future and consider the next steps for PharmiWeb.Jobs. We also anticipate some challenging times ahead, primarily driven by the uncertain impact of AI on the recruitment industry. Our ability to adapt quickly will be crucial as we navigate the repercussions of this technology. We must learn to adjust dynamically and embrace the changes rather than letting them overwhelm us.
